Search Wayne County Inmate Records

Wayne County inmate records begin with the county jail roster for people booked into local custody, then branch to court, state prison, federal, and immigration systems when the custody path changes. A Wayne County jail roster search can help look up Wayne County inmates by name, booking number, custody status, date range, or facility filter. The record may show booking, charge, bond, and court fields, but it is not the same as a final court file or a state prison record.

Wayne County Jail Roster Channels

Wayne County has more than one official path for current custody checks. The county detention page links an inmate locator to North Carolina VINELink / NC SAVAN, which supports custody status and notification registration. The active web roster is the Wayne County Sheriff Inmate Inquiry, a Tyler Technologies / New World search page headed as Wayne County Sheriff Inmate Inquiry. No login, fee, or registration was visible on the inspected roster page.

The county roster is the first place to check for Wayne County Detention Center bookings, local bond fields, court dates, charge descriptions, and past booking searches by date. It should not be used as the controlling record for state prison, federal prison, or immigration detention. State prisoners are searched through the NCDAC Offender Public Information Search. Federal prisoners are searched through the BOP Inmate Locator. Immigration custody is checked through ICE ODLS.

The Wayne County Detention Center is operated by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Larry M. Pierce is named on the sheriff's page, and the jail phone is 919-731-1660. The Sheriff's Office main number is 919-731-1481. Use the jail number when the roster does not answer a current custody question, when a spelling issue may block a search, or when an arrest is too recent to appear online.

Use the Wayne County Jail Roster

The Wayne County Sheriff Inmate Inquiry accepts broad and narrow searches. A name search is the best first move when only a last name is known. Subject Number and Booking Number are more exact. The In Custody checkbox narrows results to people currently jailed. Booking date fields help with a past booking or recent release, but broad date ranges may return large historical result sets rather than a current jail count.

  1. Open the Wayne County Sheriff Inmate Inquiry and start with the Name field if no number is known.
  2. Enter a Subject Number or Booking Number only when that identifier came from a prior record or agency notice.
  3. Check In Custody for a current jail search. Leave it unchecked for a past booking search.
  4. Add Booking From Date and Booking To Date when the arrest or booking window is known.
  5. Use Housing Facility only after a broad search, since options include jail, electronic monitoring, and residential treatment filters.
  6. Select Search, then open the linked name in the results to view the detail record.

A search URL with a booking-from-date parameter showed a paginated list and a count in the thousands. That count was not a Wayne County jail population count because it represented bookings across the selected date range. For a true current custody answer, use the In Custody filter, VINELink, or the jail phone.

The roster search form is shown on the Wayne County Sheriff Inmate Inquiry source page.

The form view matters because Wayne County combines name, booking, custody, date, and housing filters in one public search screen.

Wayne County Roster Search Fields

The county roster does not split the name field into first and last name boxes. It also does not post a visible minimum length or wildcard rule in the research capture. Date fields use a datepicker, but no public retention period or refresh interval was posted. Clear resets the form when a narrow search misses the right person.

Wayne County Inmate Profile Fields

A Wayne County public roster profile is a booking-centered record. It identifies a person and a booking event, then ties that event to bond, court, and charge rows. It is not a full jail management file. The inspected sample did not show full date of birth, race, sex, height, weight, pod, cell, release date, projected release date, or a mugshot in the text view.

FieldWhat It Shows
NameRoster display name, often in last-name-first style.
Subject NumberPerson identifier used by the Tyler/New World system.
AgeAge in years, not a full date of birth in the inspected profile.
Booking NumberIdentifier for one jail booking event.
Booking DateDate and time the booking was entered.
Total Bond AmountTotal visible bond for the booking, subject to court change.

Charges / Court DateCharge reference and court date fields tied to booking court info.
Docket NumberCourt or charging reference shown on a charge row.
Disposition / Sentence LengthFields that may populate when a charge is resolved or sentenced.

The inspected sample profile is documented as a field inventory only. The sample Wayne County profile source showed the roster's demographic, booking, bond, court, and charge tables.

Those visible fields are useful for record matching, but court records should be checked before treating a charge row as the final case outcome.

Wayne County Booking Records

The local booking path usually starts with a Wayne County deputy, Goldsboro police officer, or another law-enforcement officer making an arrest or serving a commitment order. The person is transported to the Wayne County Detention Center. The public jail and magistrate entrance is at 200 Stronach Avenue in Goldsboro, and Wayne County says the magistrate's office is housed at the new detention facility.

After arrest, the person is taken before a magistrate without unnecessary delay under G.S. 15A-511. Jail staff then create or update a booking record, assign or use a subject number, create a booking number, and add charge, bond, court, and custody information as it becomes available. G.S. 15A-502 authorizes photographs and fingerprints for law-enforcement records after arrest, detention commitment, imprisonment after conviction, or felony conviction.

Medical and mental-health details are not fully public in a roster record. Wayne County's inmate health-care RFP supports general intake context, including mental health services, medication-assisted treatment counseling, pharmacy use, and detox cells when medical staff deem a protocol necessary. Those details do not create a public right to see medical, classification, or treatment records through the roster.

County Jail vs State Prison Records

Wayne County inmate records split by custodian. The sheriff's roster is for county jail bookings, local pretrial custody, local sentence service, and roster-visible statuses such as electronic monitoring or residential treatment filters. NCDAC records are for sentenced state prisoners, probationers, parolees, and inactive state offender records. NCDAC states its database contains historical information back to 1972 and does not include county jail information.

Neuse Correctional Institution and the DART Center are physically in Wayne County, but they are NCDAC facilities, not county jail branches. Neuse is a male medium-custody reentry prison. DART is a residential substance-use treatment facility for probationers and parolees. A person housed in either facility should be searched through NCDAC, not the Wayne County jail roster.

Wayne County Detention Facilities

Facility names matter because Wayne County has county jail custody and state correctional custody in the same city. The county jail serves recent arrests and local detention. Neuse Correctional Institution and DART Center serve state correctional populations. Search the record system tied to the operator, not just the Goldsboro address.

Wayne County Visitation and Contact

Wayne County's inspected jail pages did not publish a full public visitation schedule. The safe local instruction is to confirm visits with the jail at 919-731-1660 before bringing property, documents, or children. The detention page links Pay Tel phone service and JailATM funds. The mail policy states the fastest way to communicate is phone or messaging and identifies Pay Tel Communications as the inmate communications provider.

Request Wayne County Jail Records

Use the county roster first. If a needed jail record is not online, use Wayne County's Public Records Request form for county or sheriff-held records. The form asks for requester name, address, city, state, zip code, daytime phone, a description of the record, title and date if known, department if known, and a delivery choice of email or paper. Paper copies are listed at $0.25 per page, and extensive requests may receive a written service-charge estimate before fulfillment.

Wayne County's public records routing page states that court records are maintained by the Clerk of Court. Criminal case files, civil files, divorce records, and traffic records should route to the Wayne County Clerk or North Carolina Judicial Branch. For records after the custody side, the court path is explained on Wayne County court records after jail arrest.

Note: Include full name, age or date of birth if known, booking number, subject number, date range, and the exact record requested.

Wayne County Sheriff App

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has a mobile app named Wayne County Sheriff NC. The Google Play listing and Apple App Store listing identify OCV, LLC as the publisher and describe reporting crimes, submitting tips, interactive features, and public-safety news or information. Google Play listed an update date of Nov. 24, 2025 in the research capture.

A Google Play user review said the app was useful for real-time lockups, charges, bond amount, and custody-change notifications. Because that detail came from a user review rather than the official store description, it should be treated as an additional app-indicated custody channel, not a replacement for the roster, VINELink, records request, or jail phone line.
